"BRITTANY" visits VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Brittany is back at the studio hard at work after a tiring day at vacation bible school !

Centerville Community Church had an awesome week long program for the kids based on the Rain Forest. Brittany shared her story as a Helping Hands helper monkey to the 250 attendees!

The kids had great questions for her.

FARM HELP

Workers on the farm are referred to as "farm hands" but we have "farm paws". Teddy, farm manager, is preparing to make his daily rounds collecting browse for the other animals whose diets require it.

Beagles are definitely alllll about the nose! They smell their way in and out of trouble. We have had many beagles land at our farm with the same perplexed look...."can I stay with you?"- a beagles next question is always... "when's dinner?". This is "Rally" & we're exhausting hope of finding her family. In the mean time she's welcome to stay with our family as long as she needs us.

Ahhhhh I love the rain - I get so inspired on gloomy days? Anybody else like that?

BUT I also just got drenched trying to bring the horses inside the barn - they didn't seem to care about the water coming from the sky so I stood outside with them for a while seeing and feeling the moment as they do. No rush, no stress, no worries - just grazing, grazing, grazing.

The temperature is warm, the air smells fresh, I listen to the horses contentedly chewing the grass as the raindrops gently massage my head and shoulders. Turning to quietly slip away so as not to disturb their natural balance, I step squarely into a pile of squishy brown, (which changes that fresh air smell to something much more natural) at the same time I drop my ringing cel phone right into a flowing stream of water. As I reach down to pick it up, my playful baby goat rears up to successfully butt heads with me which knocks me on my gr-ass.

By the time I get up to the house I'm soaked from head to toe and smell like the wrong part of a farm. When is this damn rain gonna stop?

Gary & I got everything set up - rushed home to feed our "zoo", slip into our evening attire and rush back again. This is Gary as he takes one deep breath just before the doors opened for the Charity Ball.

After that there was a line for couples portraits all evening - we had a blast!

LAST NIGHT

Wow the Charity Ball was a great success! This was their fourth annual - but our first and what a blast. Awesome band - "Groove Doctor"! About half way thru we ran into technical difficulties with our camera - shutter would not go above 30. That's why you have to have a spare, so thank goodness for our standby. Got to bed about 5 hours ago - gonna try and chill today with my furry friends at the farm. They've forgotten who we are!!

GETTING READY

Taking care of our "zoo" right now and will be leaving shortly to set up at Kettering's Reynolds & Reynolds for tonights Charity Ball. We'll be photographing the couples as they are wined and dined!

STRAYS

Well not surprisingly there's another stray at our house. But it does seem a little ironic that she came to us on the very day we were busy preparing the Art Auction benefit for all the strays of SICSA!

Trevor found her while I was at the studio and I didn't see her in an outdoor pen until after dark. I thought it was a coyote! She's really sweet but loves to run - hmmmm explains a little.

Matter of fact I just spent 20 minutes running the farm after her (midnight) when she slipped out of her collar. Oh what fun she was having while Gary and I chased her around acres of pasture in our slippers with flashlights.

But she decided the game was over and she's resting beside me now. Getting along with all the other animals of the farm really well. Has claimed her own bed in the house and the others have willingly allowed her to stake the claim.

At any rate, I want to give Thanks to all the wonderful artists for their donations at Saturday's art auction. AND thanks to everyone who attended and made it a $uccess! I had a great time and hope everyone else did too.

Time to prepare for the upcoming Mayors Charity Ball Photography this Saturday! Another wonderful dedication to SICSA! :O)

MAYORS CHARITY BALL COMING UP AFTER THE ART AUCTION!!

Early morning meeting in Kettering yesterday for the Mayors Charity Ball meant I had to get up even earlier than normal (that's early!) to take care of all the "kids". I think Gary plans his out of town trips accordingly! Thank goodness for our awesome neighbor, Dick Miller - don't know what we'd do without him! So he took care of the horses after their breakfast and I took care of the monkeys, parrots, cats, dogs, goats....oh you know rest & just made it to the meeting.

We are photographing the Kettering Charity Ball this year - sounds like a great event if you've never been there before. And best of all SICSA is being honored this year as the charity!

TOO HOT ALREADY????

Ahhhh Spring - so nice to be shooting (comfortably) outside the studio again!!

BUT....it was actually too hot for one of our shoots yesterday.

"Jack" and Carol Sherman were scheduled for outdoor portraits but opted for inside the studio due to the heat. "Jack" a gorgeous 12 year old yellow lab has been thru so much in the past 3 years with surgery from a ruptured disc that left his back legs paralyzed for some time. BUT...with Carol's love and devotion, Jack he is walking again! She said it hasn't been easy but what a journey and with therapy & her positive attitude he's still improving.

Remember, that while it feels great to us outside after a long cold winter, pets can get quickly over heated.

When we do our photography we always have the pets in mind first. People will complain if something's wrong - pets are too polite!

Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to another wonderful friend this week. Maggie was an awesome bulldog who owned the Johnson family - Mike, Mary, Peanut and Tommy. She REALLY owned Mary (had her wrapped around her fat little paw). I remember Mary dropping her off at my farm for training when Maggie was very young. One issue being that she would happily walk the kids to school with Mary but would "insist" that her stout little body be carried all the way back home!

We had several fun photography sessions with Maggie but I think her last Christmas session sticks out in our minds the most - no details will follow! LOL

My heart goes out to the family for their loss - it will be hard to fill those paws.

THE COYOTES WERE OUT THIS MORNING

Wow, what an eerie sound when they make their "find" known. Woke Gary and I out of a sound sleep so out to the barn I ran. Flashlight and metal feed bowl as a noisemaker. OK - lame, I know but it's all I could find in a hurry. Was very quiet when I got out to the barn but all 14 of my geese (who get closed inside the indoor arena at night for this very reason) were all very restless. I guess thinking you might be the next meal would make you a little nervous!

SPRING IS IN THE AIR EVEN THOUGH SNOW IS IN THE FORECAST! :O(

Signs of spring at our Springwater Farm:

My horseback riding students got to ride outdoors today after an entire season of indoor riding.

The horses are shedding like crazy.

The geese are getting rather amorous - (try explaining that to the kids!!) Eggs will soon follow.

A robin was trying to come in my patio door. Why not - he sees all of the other critters in the house!

Everyone's in a great mood!!

Yay Spring! But if it weren't for Winter, would you really appreciate Spring as much?

So sorry to have to open this blog with condolences to two wonderful families - the Brewers and the Nagels who have each lost a wonderful and integral part of their family recently. I feel so very lucky to have worked with Goliath Brewer and Montana Nagel.

Our hearts go out to the families & our gratitude for allowing us to create timeless memories of each.
